[Ginny]

The nice thing about being kind of self absorbed was that Kate didn't really think about the shit she did affecting people negatively.

She was sure it happened -- hell, she'd tried to burn down the bookshelf -- and she was sure there was at least one person on the island who didn't like her much, but the other nice thing about being self absorbed was that it brought a kind of confidence to a person, too. Someone out there might hate her, but it was pretty easy to not care about that much. Still, part of not thinking about it was avoidance of certain things and although Kate knew she hadn't exactly done anything wrong, she still felt sort of awkward now and then if she let herself think about Harry and Ginny.

He'd decided to stay with her, so that had to mean something, and Kate was happy with that decision. But it also meant she avoided thinking about Ginny much, just in case she wasn't happy with that decision.

Avoidance only worked so long as she could actually avoid someone, though, and sometimes that got tough. Especially when the person she was sort of avoiding -- not actively, though, that would be weird and they did have a class together -- looked exactly like someone she considered a friend. It was with the thought that she had spotted Wichita ahead of her on the boardwalk that Kate hurried to catch up with the other girl.

"Hey," she said, sounding a little breathless, though not nearly as breathless as she might have once been. That self defense class was paying off in that sense.

It was only when she arrived there that she realized that she wasn't standing beside Wichita. She tried not to be an asshole, but she also didn't exactly go out of her way to talk to Ginny either, which meant her sudden arrival at the other girl's side was probably pretty weird. "Ginny," she added, not wanting to let on that she'd confused her with someone else.

Ginny wasn't about to say that it was easy having Harry about and dating someone else, but she was living with it. In fact, it sort of sucked, but there was no use in complaining. If he had broken up for Kate the moment she had arrived, Ginny would have shouted at him. She might still have feelings for him, but they hadn't been a thing since he had gone off to do the stupid, noble thing. A lot had changed. She had changed.

There was a look of mild confusion on her face when Kate stopped her. It was quickly explained away when she realized that Kate had been confused. She wasn't going to call the other girl on it, but rather smiled. "Hey Kate. What's up?

Personally Ginny was more than a little grateful that Kate got that particular bit of awkwardness out of the way. It had been plain to both of them that some sort of mistake had occurred. Pretending it hadn't been that way wasn't going to make that awkwardness go away. Actually it was quite likely to make it worse and frankly Ginny was certain there was enough room for awkward without that.

"Ah yeah, I thought so," she admitted with a nod and a wry smile. "Glad you said something otherwise I was going to have to ask and that would have been even weirder." Not that it didn't already have the potential to be painful. Ginny was bound and determined to try to make it less so. "The not-twin thing is a bit complicated unfortunately."

"Oh that would be a bit weird," Ginny agreed wrinkling her nose with a bit of distaste. She didn't have anything against Wichita or Olive, both of whom were a bit taller and a bit less properly ginger than she was. The little differences were quite comforting when confronted by someone who looked like her but wasn't a blood relative.

Laughing Ginny would have to give Kate that one. "Yeah, that's a bit rubbish. I'd go by Joscelind Muckrackle if it was me. Or a better emotion. Envy's just played out."

"Pretty much. But Envy's a bit more glamorous than something like gluttony or sloth." Much as Ginny didn't care to admit it, she could understand why that doppelganger of Kate's had gone with that choice. It might not be clever and it might be played out, but it did hit mental image that wasn't horrifying.

"Oh yes. The sort who ends up on the covers of magazines half-dressed and talking about how she wants to be taken seriously a performer." Ginny laughed rolling her eyes at the very thought of it.

Now that they were talking she wasn't focusing on how weird it might've been, but rather on how natural it was. It was much better than the few times she'd tried to have a conversation with Cho. That girl was just a wet blanket.

"Probably. What you find could end up being seriously terrifying."

It would be a little bit above and beyond the whole 'oh we happen to share a face' level of terrifying. Ginny was certain that it could quite rapidly cross into places where it made no sense what so ever. The revelation that the bookshelf gave Kate what she wanted provoked a raised eyebrow from Ginny. Apparently some people were luckier than she was.

"Maybe you'll get a magazine and then the jukebox will start ruining your life with her music. Which would actually take the cake as far as weird things go. I think."

Tilting her head to the side slightly she made a bit of a show of thinking that over. There honestly wasn't that much to think about, but sometimes it was good to draw a conclusion out a bit. In fact she was spending this time thinking about Kate, who actually wasn't all that bad. It pleased her, actually, as much as these things could please her. At least Kate wasn't some sort of horrible drip like Cho or worse, a complete lunatic like Romilda Vane.

"It would be," she conceded with a nod. "So let's go have a look. See how long it takes us before we're drowning in this sort of junk. I say less than five minutes."

There was something very weird about this. Girls weren't supposed to be friendly with the girls that their ex-boyfriends were dating, but Kate was nice if not a bit odd. The blonde certainly was different, which wasn't bad. It just made Ginny look for the reasons that Harry had picked her. It made her trust that Harry actually had good taste, which was something of an ego boost.

Besides it wasn't as if she had thought they were still together. Back home they had broken up, lived their own different versions of the war at hand. He had died, for Christsake. So much had happened. It was just a matter of moving past it.

Turning as well she nodded. "Yeah. I think it's definitely a bit of both. It tends to be straight up horrid to me, but I've come to expect it so it might just end up being nice."

"That would be terrible." Ginny can't really imagine what that would be for her. Maybe something in which everyone she knew died? Come to think of it, there had been that rather bleak and depressing children's book called All My Friends Are Dead. That one hadn't been particularly thrilling to receive.

"But that video would be a bit impressive. More impressive now that I actually know what a video is." She laughed following Kate over to the bookshelf. Running her hand along the shelf she thought about Kate had said. It was something that had crossed her mind before. How else could she explain the weird looks she sometimes got when she said her name? Or that she looked like a pair of American girls. "It would bloody barmy, but I can't say it would be that much a stretch. I'd sort of hate it though. Kind of a shit story."

It wasn't that Ginny didn't know, it was more that it had taken her slightly longer than it might have had she come from later in time or had been a Muggle. It would have been something that she had cottoned on to had she encountered certain staples from her childhood. The months that she had spent here she had devoted to playing a mild form of catch-up. Soon she'd be somwhat like anything else.

"Oh. That's cool," Ginny said with the confidence of someone who knew what they were talking about which she definitely didn't. Stepping forward so that she could see the screen, she took in all that was happen. "Wow. She's...those shoes are mental."
