"Yeah, I think so," Kate said, even though she'd never known anyone in a situation like that. She might not have said it very much, but her mom was the strongest person she knew, dealing with all that shit that had been piled on her and still trying to be a good wife and mother and painter and sister. Especially since Charmaine could be such a bitch about the whole thing most of the time, not that Kate herself had been much better.
"The worst thing that's happened to Marshall is a bee sting, which is pretty bad, since he's allergic to them. It scared the shit out of me," she admitted. In Kansas, Max and Tara would have been the ones to deal with it, but here, she was sort of responsible for him. Not that she had to look after him like she was his parent, but she was his sister. That was important, too.
