Groaning as soon as Kate began laughing, Hermione chanced a look up at the other girl before she wound up burying her face more insistently against her knees after all, a soft whine slipping from her lips. Of course, that was the proper reaction, wasn't it? The accident was just that, an accident, no one's fault in particular, and lamenting wasn't going to get anything done. Wasn't going to help patch the strain in any of the relationships. Still, to be laughed at on the one occasion Hermione had actually tried to help things get started in that area was an experience which left her rather gun-shy.
"Oh no, no, you have it all wrong," Hermione lamented, emerging again and unable to stifle a laugh in spite of herself, though her face remained completely flushed and her eyes began tearing up with the effort it took to keep everything down. "He's wanted to... try again, but I'm the one having difficulty— I mean— it's just rather hard to be interested with so much else happening, and doubly so when your immediate impulse is to look up and ensure for the hundredth time that you've locked the door."
