"And that's why we're going," Kate says as the door to the Bathysphere swings shut and it begins to descend. It's dark at first, then they hit the water and light filters inside, first from the sun penetrating the ocean and then the lights from the city below.
"Check it out," she says, pressing against one of the windows so she can look down as they approach.
