"I need to get super drunk and eat like, ten pounds of ice cream and then sleep for a week," Kate answers with a huff of laughter. It's not even really a joke, she's pretty sure all of those things will help her feel at least a little bit better, but nothing is really going to help.

"I totally knew this was going to happen," she says. "Maybe not this in particular, but I knew it couldn't last. I mean, that's just how it works. Nothing ever lasts."
