There's a bit of a hesitation while Kate tries to figure out what to do with it. Effy isn't going to tell her, but she doesn't know if keeping it is the right decision or if she really should just flush it. Either way, whatever she decides, she'll have to take it now and so she reaches out and takes the bag, tucking it into the pocket of her shorts. She'll figure out what to do with it later. It doesn't matter right now, not if she gets it out of sight, anyway.

Out of sight, out of mind. That's sort of how Kate's worked her entire life.

"I greased the pan," she says, turning back toward it on the counter. "If you want to put the brownies in there, then we can bake them and I'll cross my fingers that they're edible."
